What HDU brings to the design
HDU means high-density urethane, a manufactured rigid urethane material used for dimensional signs and plaques. It is a different substrate from solid wood.
For this product, the material is 1 inch thick. Hand carving shapes the relief into that substrate, while acrylic paint supplies the visible color. The design’s dimension comes from the carving, rather than a printed illusion of depth.
HDU is worth considering when you want a painted emblem or sculpted presentation without making natural wood grain part of the design.
Understand the painted finish
The substrate, surface preparation, color coating, and protective finishing have separate jobs.
HDU forms the plaque. Carving creates its contours. A primer or sealer, where used, prepares the surface for subsequent coatings. Acrylic paint provides color; any additional protective finish has a separate role in the finished coating system.

Indoor displays and sheltered outdoor locations

HDU plaques can also be used outdoors, preferably in sheltered locations. Tell us whether the plaque will sit beneath a roof or overhang and whether it will receive direct rain or prolonged sunlight. Those conditions matter when reviewing the complete plaque and its installation.

Mounting and presentation
Plaques have keyhole slots on the rear. Large designs may have two or more slots, and the largest may need support brackets. Ask staff to advise on mounting for the selected size and location.
For desk or shelf display, presentation stands are available with the plaque or as a separate purchase.

No. It is high-density urethane. Choose mahogany if solid wood is an essential part of the gift or display.
Does acrylic paint mean acrylic polyurethane?

Is the complete plaque waterproof?

There are slight differrences on the gloss of the mahagamy and HDU finishes. Ask for the HDU finish to be confirmed.
