Direct-to-Material UV-Printed HDU Wall and Presentation Plaques
Create a custom printed plaque in 1-inch-thick high-density urethane. Choose a flat face for the artwork or add carved relief before printing, with matte, semi-gloss, and gloss finishes available.
For wall displays, presentation pieces, and outdoor projects, tell us both what the plaque should show and where it will be used.

Choose the relationship between image and dimension
A flat printed plaque presents the artwork on a prepared face without carved relief in the design. It is an option when the image, lettering, and overall outline provide the appearance you want.
A printed carved-relief plaque combines a shaped HDU surface with directly printed artwork. The relief is carved first; the print supplies color and image detail on suitable prepared surfaces.
Discuss which parts of the design should be dimensional. Not every relief profile or arrangement of small details is suitable for every printed project, so construction and artwork are reviewed together.
Prepared HDU beneath directly printed artwork
HDU means high-density urethane. These plaques use 1-inch-thick HDU as the structural substrate.
MilitaryPlaques.com’s Direct-to-Material UV Flatbed Printing process applies specialized acrylic-based UV-curable inks through printheads directly onto the prepared plaque. Primers or pre-coatings vary with the substrate. UV lights cure the applied ink.
Surface preparation helps establish a suitable base for the image; the ink supplies the printed color; the specified finish establishes the sheen. These functions should not be confused with the HDU material itself.
Choose matte, semi-gloss, or gloss, and have any additional protective finishing requirements confirmed for the project.
Examples of UV-printed HDU wall plaques
These wall-plaque examples show military emblems, an agency seal, and a custom-shaped command crest. Front views show the printed artwork; angled views show the prepared face and the HDU substrate edge. The FBI and Space Force photos each show two views of the same plaque.

Design for the viewing location
Request a unit emblem, institutional seal, organizational logo, custom outline, or recognition layout, subject to practical review.
For a wall plaque, include the intended viewing distance and available display space if known. For a presentation plaque, include the recipient’s name and dedication, and whether it will later sit on a stand or hang on a wall.
Inscription options include carving, etched brass plates, and separately applied UV-printed decals, according to your requirements. These are distinct from printing the main artwork directly onto the HDU.
Dimensions and production suitability are confirmed individually. Do not assume that sizes listed for other materials or manufacturing methods apply to this product.
Indoor use and outdoor exposure
UV-printed HDU can be considered for interior wall displays, reception areas, recognition presentations, and outdoor locations, preferably with shelter.
For outdoor use, describe direct sunlight, rain exposure, overhead cover, and the proposed mounting location. MilitaryPlaques.com confirms UV-resistant inks, but the service life of the finished plaque depends on the substrate, installation, and exposure.
“UV-curable” describes how the ink hardens during manufacture. “UV-resistant” concerns its behavior during sunlight exposure. Neither term establishes a guaranteed lifespan for the complete plaque.
MilitaryPlaques.com’s care instruction is keep dry. A moisture-resistant substrate does not make the finished assembly waterproof.
Mounting and presentation options
Rear keyhole slots support wall display. Large plaques may use two or more slots, and the largest may need support brackets. Ask staff to confirm mounting advice for the dimensions and installation.
Presentation stands are available with the plaque or separately.
Choose hand-carved and hand-painted HDU if brush-applied color is central to the desired appearance. Choose mahogany for an indoor project where solid wood is a priority. For an exposed installation, discuss the conditions with staff before selecting the product; MilitaryPlaques.com also offers cast-metal plaques.
Quote, approve, and confirm arrival requirements
No minimum order is required. Artwork setup and a design mockup are free. Your quote should identify dimensions, flat or carved construction, finish, inscription, quantity, and delivery arrangements.
Approve the proof before production. Subsequent design changes may affect price and timing.
Free standard U.S. shipping is available, with destination coverage and any other charges confirmed for the order. Ask about express availability and fees where needed; payment and artwork confirmation affect express scheduling. Provide the required arrival date so the proposed schedule can be checked.
Current Terms & Conditions and the Return & Refund Policy apply.
Frequently asked questions
Does 1-inch HDU mean the carving is 1 inch deep?
No. It describes the material thickness used for these plaques. The relief is determined by the approved design and practical production requirements.
Can small lettering or a complex logo be included?
Submit the artwork and wording with the intended dimensions. Suitability and readability need review at the proposed finished size.
Can the plaque be installed without shelter?
Describe the exposure before ordering. Sheltered outdoor locations are preferred; suitability for a more exposed position requires project-specific review.
Does choosing gloss make the plaque more suitable outdoors?
Sheen describes the surface appearance. It does not, by itself, establish outdoor performance or waterproofing.
