The handcrafted mahogany plaque presents the official seal of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a way to honor one of America's essential federal agencies.
About CBP
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security established CBP as its largest federal law enforcement agency on March 1, 2003 through which the agency employs more than 60,000 employees who include officers and agents from Border Patrol as well as agriculture specialists and air and marine interdiction agents and trade professionals. CBP is entrusted with:
- The U.S. borders remain secure because CBP protects against terrorism while blocking illegal immigration and stopping contraband.
- The agency supports both legitimate international trade operations and travel procedures.
- The agency works to protect both agricultural assets and national economic interests.
- The agency enforces customs and immigration laws together with trade regulations.
Since its inception in 1789 as the U.S. Customs Service the agency has become one of the oldest federal institutions in existence. The seal represents the agency's dedication to vigilance as well as its commitment to integrity and its service to the country.
