**USS *Warrior* (MCM-10)** is an [ *Avenger*-class](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avenger-class_mine_countermeasures_ship "Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship") [mine countermeasures ship](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mine_countermeasures_ship "Mine countermeasures ship") of the [United States Navy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy "United States Navy").

The *Avenger*-class ships were designed to have very low [acoustic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_signature "Acoustic signature") and [magnetic signatures](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetism "Magnetism") to avoid detonating mines. While most modern warships have steel hulls, the *Avengers* have wooden hulls with an external coating of fiberglass. They are equipped with sophisticated minehunting and classification [sonar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonar "Sonar") as well as remotely operated mine neutralization and disposal systems.

*Warrior* was laid down on 25 September 1989 at Peterson Builders in [Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon_Bay,_Wisconsin "Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin"). She was launched on 8 December 1990, and was commissioned on 7 April 1993.

On 7 August 1998, *Warrior* rescued four men from a sinking boat off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina. "We were in the right place at the right time," said Chief Boatswain's Mate (SW) John Valdez.[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Warrior_(MCM-10)#cite_note-highbeam-1)

In June 2005, *Warrior*, along with four other mine countermeasure ships, participated in a mine warfare exercise off the coast of Florida. The other ships involved were [*Gladiator*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Gladiator_(MCM-11) "USS Gladiator (MCM-11)"), [*Shrike*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Shrike_(MHC-62) "USS Shrike (MHC-62)"), [*Oriole*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Oriole_(MHC-55) "USS Oriole (MHC-55)") and [*Cormorant*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Cormorant_(MHC-57) "USS Cormorant (MHC-57)").[\[2\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Warrior_(MCM-10)#cite_note-highbeam2-2)

On 26 February 2013, 7th Fleet announced that *Warrior* would be transferred from 5th Fleet in Bahrain to 7th Fleet in Sasebo, Japan to replace [*Guardian*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Guardian_(MCM-5) "USS Guardian (MCM-5)"), which had recently been decommissioned after running aground in the Philippines.[\[3\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Warrior_(MCM-10)#cite_note-3)
