This solid mahogany wall plaque shows the Air National Guard circular seal. This hand carved and hand painted wooden plaque is perfect as a wall plaque or podium plaque.
The Air National Guard (ANG), also known as the Air Guard, is a federal military reserve force of the United States Air Force, as well as the air militia of each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It, along with each state's, district's, commonwealth's or territory's Army National Guard component, makes up the National Guard of each state and the districts, commonwealths and territories as applicable.
Throughout history, the Air National Guard has been responsible for the defense of the United States. General George Washington commanded the first National Guard unit against the invasion of British forces. National Guard troops participated in the War Between the States. Whether guarding its borders to the north and south or patrolling the waters of our coastline, the Air Guard ensures the safety of all Americans. Today, the Air National Guard provides 100 percent of the Air Force's continental United States based air defense interceptor force.
The Air Force has long been recognized as a leader within the Defense Department in developing and creatively employing its reserve components. This history sheds a great deal of light on why and how that has happened. It also suggests how citizen-soldiers have adapted our nation's venerable militia institutions to the demands of high technology air warfare in the late twentieth century.
Today the Air National Guard is turning its sights toward space. Space-warning missions, once thought to be a thing of the future, are now a key part of the Air National Guard. This space warning system ensures mobile command and control in the event of a nuclear war or other crisis, and keeps the national command authority informed of missile activity worldwide.
Each Air National Guard wall plaque is hand carved from solid mahogany then hand painted and finished. Fantastic addition to any military collection. Great military retirement gift, military graduation gift, or military recognition awards. Recessed hook enables the plaque to hang flush against any wall.
