On 12 May 2005, the 422 ABG became a unit of the 501st Combat Support Wing (501 CSW) when the 501 CSW replaced the 38 CSW. This change was made to functionally align all major Geographically Separated Units (GSUs) in England. This created the 422 ABG in charge of the 422d Air Base Squadron, the 422d Communications Squadron, the 422d Civil Engineering Squadron and the 422d Security Forces Squadron. On a disc Azure, issuant from base a satellite dish Silver Gray, debruised by a tiger Proper claws extended, all surmounting four lightning bolts emitting from \r\nchief and terminating at fess point, all within a narrow border Yellow. Attached above the disc, a Blue scroll edged with a narrow Yellow border and inscribed "ENABLING THE WARFIGHTER" in Yellow letters. Attached below the disc, a Blue scroll edged with a narrow Yellow border and inscribed 422D COMMUNICATIONS SQ in Yellow letters. SIGNIFICANCE: Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The satellite dish symbolizes technology, connectivity and operational relevance around the globe. The tiger represents strength and vigilance. The lightning bolts signify the spectrum of the communications field, which contributes to the defense of the country.
Each 422d Communications Squadron wall plaque is hand carved from solid mahogany then hand painted and finished. Fantastic additions to any military collection. A recessed hook enables the plaque to hang flush against any wall.
