Recognizing Unsung Heroes–Veterans of 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment

There are a lot of Veterans whose sacrifice and valor remained unrecognized. And sadly, some did not even live to the day that their heroism and courage were really celebrated.

Fortunately this is not the case for personnel from the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. (A unit in the US Army stationed at Fort Irwin). There were 86 veterans personally address by President Obama at the White House and awarded the Alpha Troop the Military’s highest unit honor, the Presidential Unit Citation. This award is given to units who showed extraordinary heroism in the face of the enemy. The unit must display gallantry and determination in accomplishing its mission under difficult conditions that set them apart from other units.

The award recognizes the mission the Veterans undertook on March 26, 1970.  They rescued an American Infantry company surrounded on the Cambodian border by an overwhelming enemy force. Imminent death or capture would have happen to the 100 Americans infantry personnel without the heroic effort of the Alpha Troop.

The veteran unit received a blue silk badge. (The said event also awarded the 11th ACR’s active unit)

To quote President Obama “These men might be a little older, a little grayer, but make no mistake, these soldiers define the meaning of bravery and heroism.”

These men were now recognized and would not remain anonymous.  There are still a lot of unsung heroes, but in our own little way we could also show are salute these Veterans. Let their valor never be forgotten.

This upcoming Veterans Day, why not give plaques to Veterans as a sign of your salute to them? MilitaryPlaques.Com is also joining the celebration by giving 5% of the proceeds of every sale of Veteran-themed plaque to DAV Charitable Service Trust, which aims to help Veterans and their dependents.

Military Plaques also offers Retirement Plaques, Shadow Boxes, Deployment Plaques, and Tail Flashes, which could be personalized according to your preference.
