What is Retirement?

Retirement is the point where a person stops employment completely. Many people choose to retire when they are eligible for private or public pension benefits, although some are forced to retire when physical conditions don’t allow the person to work any more (by illness or accident) or as a result of legislation concerning their position. In most countries, the idea of retirement is of recent origin, being introduced during the 19th and 20th centuries. Previously, low life expectancy and the absence of pension arrangements meant that most workers continued to work until death. Germany was the first country to introduce retirement in the 1880s.

Retired workers then support themselves either through pensions or savings. In most cases the money is provided by the government, but sometimes granted only by private subscriptions to mutual funds. In this latter case, subscriptions might be compulsory or voluntary. In some countries an additional “bonus” is granted una tantum (once only) in proportion to the years of work and the average wages; this is usually provided by the employer.

At MilitaryPlaques.Com, we give importance to all our veterans and to our retired military people who took part in serving their country without anything in return. They serve as the new heroes of this generation.

We produce different kinds of retirement plaque, mostly they are customized based from our clients specification. Any design, shape and size– we can carve any kinds of seals/logos on the wood plaque itself. A Tribute to a Hero

Imagine this scene:

During a funeral, Navy SEALs  were lined up in both sides forming two columns. As the coffin passed by at the center, each SEAL  slaps down the gold Trident from his uniform, the trident was then deeply embedded in the wooden coffin.

The slaps was heard across the cemetery…

This was the scene during the funeral of Michael Monsoor.

Michael Monsoor’s Story:

On September 29 2006, Ramadi, Iraq — a member of the elite branch of Navy called SEAL (stands for Sea, Air and Land) sacrificed his life to save his comrades.

Mike Monsoor was part of the overwatch security position, together with three other SEALs and eight Iraqi soldiers, when a live grenade was thrown to the rooftop where they are positioned. In a split second decision, Mike Monsoor smothered his body to the grenade and absorbed the main impact from the blast. He saved three of the comrades who were with him.

But what is more outstanding in this selfless act is that with the way the overwatch position was arranged, Michael was the only one who could have possibly saved himself since he was near the entry and exit point, instead he still chose to sacrifice himself for the sake of others.

Honoring Heroes

On April 8, 2008 former President George Bush awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously to Michael A. Monsoor and on October, 2008 the Secretary of Navy Donald C. Winter announced that DDG-1001, the second ship in the Zumwalt class of destroyers would be named Michael Monsoor to honor the valor of Monsoor.

May we all be inspired by the character and bravery of Michael Monsoor.  This Veterans Day, let’s take the opportunity to thank and salute both the dead and the living who have served the Military. Let us all acknowledge the sacrifices and service that each personnel rendered for us and our nation.

With that, MilitaryPlaques.Com is joining the celebration, and as a salute to all Veterans we are giving 5% for each Veteran-themed plaque that is sold to DAV Charitable Service Trust, which aims to help disabled veterans and their dependents.

3rd Armored Division ” SPEARHEAD”

The 3rd Armored Division started on 1941. The division was one of the key participants in European Theater in World War II. The 3AD inflicted the most damage and with that took the most casualties.  It was given a “firsts of its kind” honors in Europe which explains its nickname “SPEARHEAD”. This is in recognition of the division’s role as the “spearhead” of many attacks during the liberation of France.

During the four decades of Cold War, the Division was NATO’s primary point guard for the Fulda Gap in central Germany. To quote a historian, 3AD “stood eyeball-to-eyeball against the forces of Soviet Union”.

The division’s core units were the 23rd Armored Engineer Battalion, 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, 32nd Armored Regiment, 83rd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, and the 143rd Armored Signal Company.

In 1990-1991, the division left its German bases for the Persian Gulf War to be lead element attacking Iraq for U.S. During that time, until today, 3AD is the largest U.S. division ever assembled.

After fifty years of honored service to our country, the Third Army Division was deactivated in 1992 following the end of Cold War.

These are some of the awards given to the Third Army Division:

  • Distinguished Service Crosses
  • Silver Stars
  • Soldiers Medal
  • Bronze Stars
