Independence Day in the United States is commonly known as the Fourth of July in commemoration of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 — the day the wording of the Declaration was approved by theAmerica Love It or Leave It L2 US Independence DayCongress.

Americans celebrate their freedom with picnics, barbeques, parades, family gatherings and fireworks.

The declaration is written primarily by Thomas Jefferson and it explains why Congress had voted on July 2 to declare independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War.
