My heroes are those who risk their lives every day to protect our world and make it a better place -police, firefighters and members of our armed forces. – Sidney Sheldon

In the country, Law Enforcement is one of the three major components of the criminal justice system, along with courts and corrections. According to textbooks and scholars, there are three primary police agency functions.

Order maintenance. This is the broad mandate to keep the peace or otherwise prevent behaviors which might disturb others. This can deal with things ranging from a barking dog to a fist-fight. Such situations are usually called-on to “handle” with discretion, rather than deal with them as strict violations.

Law enforcement. Those powers are typically used only in cases where the law has been violated and a suspect must be identified and apprehended. Most obvious instances include robbery, murder, or burglary.

Service. Services may include rendering first aid, providing tourist information, guiding the disoriented, or acting as educators.

Police officers are indeed dedicated to apprehending criminals and violators but they are also helpful individuals in times of inconvenience. Police responsibility also extends to roadside auto assistance, providing referrals to other agencies, finding lost pets or property, or checking locks on vacationer’s homes. One study showed that 80% of all calls for police assistance did not involve crimes.

The first police station was called New York Sheriff’s Office in 1626 while the first modern police department established in the United States was the Boston Police Department in 1838.

The fabrication work for LHD 4 commenced at Litton-Ingals in Mississippi in July 9, 1990 and was launched Aug. 13, 1993.

The ship began its service to the Navy as its fourth LHD Feb. 11, 1995 after four years of construction.

The first boxer in American history was actually Her Majesty’s Bristish Ship (HMBS) Boxer, a Brig of 14 guns commanded by Captain Blyth. The HMBS Boxer was sailing off the coast of Portland, Maine Sep. 5, 1813 when she was met by USS Enterprise. The fight that ensued was heroic for both ships, and in the end Boxer’s crew surrendered her to U.S. forces.

The Shield:

The United States is symbolized by the bald eagle whose wings are out-spread beyond the shield to denote the scope beyond her own shores and of the U.S. influence for stability in affairs world-wide. The Border signifies unity and cooperation. The gold is the universal symbol of excellence.

The Swords:

The naval officer’s sword and a Marine Corps mameluke are crossed diagonally to represent strength and cooperation.

The Crest:

The star of six points represents all ships to bear the name Boxer. The octagon charged with a gold star recalls the eight battle stars won by USS Boxer (CV 21) for action off Korea, here symbolized by the Taeguk (symbol from the Republic of Korea’s flag) that bears the star. The wreath of laurel stands for honor and the maintenance and pursuit of peace.

We see them in action films. We read them on novels. What are squadrons in real life and who flies them?

Navy squadrons are usually composed of several aircraft (from as few as two to as many as several dozen) the officers who fly them and the men and women that maintain them. Majority of the squadrons also have a number of other administrative support personnel.

Aircraft Squadrons are typically headed by a Commander. Second in command is the Executive Officer, also a Commander. Typically, there are four functional departments – Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Administration – each led by a Lieutenant Commander. Within departments are Divisions and branches led by a Lieutenant and headed by a Chief Petty Officer respectively.

To be able to classify a squadron is to look at its Type, Model and Series. Active squadrons are those in the regular US Navy, Reserve squadrons are in the US Navy Reserve and are manned by reservists.

With no counterpart in the Regular Navy, they represent 100% of the Navy’s medium and heavy intra-theater airlift, and operate year-round, around the world providing critical link between deployed sea going units and air mobility command logistics hubs.

Featured plaque shown above is an example of Fleet Logistics Support squadron that operates navy unique airlift aircraft on a worldwide basis to provide responsive, flexible, and rapidly deployable air logistics support required to sustain combat operations from the sea.

MilitaryPlaques.Com is a veteran-owned company with 20 years of experience in plaque making. Plaque shown above is a deployment plaque made from kiln-dried mahogany wood that is hand carved and hand painted. VA employs nearly 280, 000 people at hundreds of Veterans Affairs medical facilities, clinics and benefits offices and is responsible for administering programs of veterans’ benefits for veterans, their families and survivors.

The United States has the most comprehensive system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. The said benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony.

The Continental Congress of 1776 encouraged enlistments during the American Revolutionary War by giving out pensions for soldiers who where handicapped. Direct medical and hospital care given to veterans in the early days of the republic was provided by the individual states and communities.

By 1811, the first domiciliary and medical facility for veterans was authorized by the federal government, but not opened until 1834. It was in 19th century when the nation’s veterans assistance program was expanded to cover the benefits and pensions not only for the veterans, but also their widows and dependents.

As the years go by, the benefit system grew larger and larger. Benefits are getting better and processing getting faster using modern technology to hasten the distribution of benefits.

It was in 1973 when the Veterans Administration Affairs (VA) was established as a Cabinet-level position on March 15, 1989.

President George H.W. Bush hailed the creation of the new department saying, “There is only one place for the veterans of America, in the Cabinet Room, at the table with the President of the United States of America.”

They serve to defend and preserve the shorelines of the United States. The USCG protects the personal safety and security of the American people, the marine transportation system and infrastructure, natural and economic resources and the territorial integrity of our nation-from both domestic and foreign threats, natural and manmade.

The United States Coast Guard Reserve, on the other hand, is the reserve military force of the Coast Guard. Founded on 19 February 1941, the reservists normally drill two days a month and an additional twelve days of active duty each year. They possess the same training and qualifications as their active duty counterparts.

The multi-mission military service offers a unique blend of military, law enforcement, humanitarian, regulatory, and diplomatic capabilities.

The Nation’s primary maritime law enforcement service covers three broad roles: maritime safety, maritime security and maritime stewardship.

Maritime security. Since 1790, the USCG has been the “law of the sea.” Maritime security requires a wide range of experience and skills. They use a broad law enforcement power with prudence and restraint mainly important in suppressing violations of drug, immigration and fisheries laws, as well as to secure our nation from terrorist threats.

Maritime safety. The USCG provides the world’s fastest and most effective response to distress calls. They USCG men and women are carefully trained and tested so that when the alarm sounds, they are at their best.

Maritime stewardship. Being part of the USCG doesn’t mean that you are just protecting coastlines and borders but also responsible in protecting valuable natural marine resources as well as private and commercial waterways.

Above photo shows a US Coast Guard plaque in full color. All items are hand made from solid, mahogany wood that is kiln dried at our own workshop making sure no warping will occur.
As part of his cause, Johnny adopted Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl of the United States Army who has been a prisoner of war (POW) in Afghanistan since June 30, 2009. Johnny is asking everyone to please pray for this POW and all of the other POWs.

The introduction of Johnny’s efforts took place on Veteran’s Day 11-11-2011 at the VFW Post 388 in Wausau, WI. Johnny invites you to join his efforts and support his unique events and opportunities to show your pride and loyalty too.

Recently, a 30, 000 signature campaign successfully concluded last March 27, 2012. As of March 29, 2012, a total of 53, 482 signatures were collected far exceeding the initial goal. The petition was presented to several members of Congress and they have been asked to present it to the House Floor and have them recorded. The said petition was meant to promote awareness to the sufferings of the brave soldier that is a POW in Afghanistan.

Following the petition is A Candle Light Vigil for POW Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl on Friday, March 30, 2012 VFW Post #388 in Wasau, WI. 6-8 PM. For more information regarding the vigil, go to www.dosalute.net.

In the face of daily threats worldwide, U.S. diplomacy plays a central and crucial role. This is the main reason why Marine Security Guards, for over six decades now, have worked closely with the U.S. Department of State and its Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) to protect and safeguard American diplomacy around the world.

The core mission of the MSGs is to provide internal security services at U.S. diplomatic and consular facilities abroad, to prevent the compromise of classified U.S. Government information and equipment under a range of circumstances, up to and including hostile assaults.

Along with their primary mission is their secondary, which is to provide protection for U.S. citizens and property located within those official U.S. facilities during situations that require urgent action. They react immediately to crises large and small, including demonstrations, bomb threats, fires, nuclear/biological/chemical threats, and facility intrusion attempts.

Stated duties make MSGs as a solid line of defense for American diplomacy.

Marine Security Guards are stationed at different U.S. embassies around the globe. Every MSG stationed at an embassy entrance is looked upon as a symbol of American values of integrity, courage, loyalty and commitment.

In their list of priorities, the FBI focuses on threats that challenge the foundations of the country. The FBI supports states on crimes that local authorities cannot handle alone.

The Science and Technology branch, lead by Louis E. Grevner, is responsible for the discovery, development, and delivery of innovative, technically-enabled investigative and analytical capabilities. The primary mission of the branch is to facilitate the application of innovative scientific, engineering and technical solutions in support of intelligence and investigative requirements. The branch’s contribution to the modern developments of crime solving is astounding.

Heavily portrayed in films, the agency’s headquarters is located in the J. Edgar Hoover Building, located in Washington, D.C.. The FBI headquarters has fifty-six field office scattered in major cities throughout the United States. In addition to this, there are more than 50 international offices called “legal attaches” that can be found in U.S. embassies and consulates general worldwide.

Today, modern Army aviators perform a multitude of complex missions from patrolling the skies over modern battlefields while piloting unmanned aerial vehicles from remote locations to dominating the modern battlefield in the middle of the day or during the dark of night.

The Army Aviator Branch Insignia is a silver propeller in a vertical position between two gold wings in a horizontal position, 1 1/8 inches in width.

The Army Aviation branch was established as a basic branch of the Army effective April 12, 1983. The wings are modified and differ from designs currently used on Army and Air Force aviator badges. The insignia draws upon the original insignia for historical and symbolic purposes, but was deliberately modified to signify a new chapter in Army Aviation history.
